How many different types of orgasms can a woman have? Yes, you read that right, I wrote “types of orgasms” which means there is more than one kind. If you have a clitoris and a g-spot, you have won the orgasm lottery. This means that for some – unfortunately not all – there is more than one way to achieve the big O!

There are at least 6 possible types of orgasm for women, though not all women can achieve all of them. Experimenting by yourself can help you discover some areas, like the G-spot. Masturbation can help you figure out what you like and how you can reach orgasm. After all, knowing what makes you feel good and what an orgasm feels like alone will help you have one with a partner too.

Let’s talk more about orgasms - have you already experienced one of them? Read on to see all 6 types of orgasms a woman can potentially experience.

1. The Clitoral Orgasm

This is by far the most common type of orgasm with 85% of all sexually active women only being able to orgasm through clitoral stimulation. The clitoris has the most nerve endings – 8,000 of them – and all roads here lead to orgasm. Clitoral orgasm is usually the first type of orgasm to experience, and usually in younger years.

What does it feel like? Not everyone describes the way they feel when they orgasm in the same way, so it’s hard to generalize, but many people who have experienced a clitoral orgasm say it feels tingly. Their vaginal area gets wet and the tingles start in the clitoris and waves of tingles build until they peak at one giant one.

Rubbing the clitoris with fingers or against objects (like pillows) can result in a pretty fantastic orgasm. Later, during sexual intercourse, most women find that the only way to climax is by adding clitoral stimulation to the mix. So, how do you have one? Concentrate on stimulating your clitoris! Oral sex is by far the best way to provide this stimulation, but your own fingers, vibrators or bullets, or even a stiff hairbrush handle can provide the needed stimulation.

2. The Internal Orgasm

Yes, the G-Spot is inside the vaginal canal and most people assume if they climax from intercourse that they are having a G-Spot orgasm, but this is not completely accurate. Some women can and do orgasm from just internal vaginal stimulation and while there may be some G-Spot involvement – after all, you can’t have vaginal stimulation without at least glossing over the G-Spot – the G-Spot doesn’t have to run the show.

Internal orgasms are the hardest type of orgasm for women to achieve. Most women – over 90% - can NOT orgasm through intercourse alone. These lucky ladies just have a little extra sensitivity going on in their vaginas and they can have internal orgasms during sex or vibrator play. Some women find that rather than penis penetration if fingers are used to penetrate, they may have an easier time reaching a vaginal or internal orgasm.

3. The G-Spot Orgasm

Ah yes, the G-spot orgasm. Many people think that this type of orgasm is a myth or some sort of trick that porno actresses use. The G-spot is real – and so is the chance of having a G-Spot orgasm.

Unfortunately, most women will never experience one. The G-spot is located on the upper (belly) side of the vagina canal, about 2-3 inches inside the vagina. It feels a little rougher than the remainder of the vaginal wall, and 90% of women can FEEL it when it is pressed. But recognizing where it is and how it feels doesn’t mean that these women can have the orgasm, just that they recognize the difference in feeling.

How can you try to stimulate the G-spot? Find the rough patch on the belly side of the vaginal wall with a finger. Make a come-hither movement with your fingers and stroke it. Some women like to have rhythmic pressure put on the G-spot too. If you’re with a partner, there are two sexual positions that might help you find the G-spot, the missionary position, and the vagina on top position.

Some women can and do ejaculate (squirt) and have the full-fledged G-spot orgasm, but they are the exception, not the rule. The G-spot is a complicated little part of the body and having the G-spot orgasm can take some dedication and time. Those who do experience the G-spot orgasm say it feels like a full-body O.

If you are interested in trying to have a G-Spot orgasm, then read one of the many articles here on the subject.

4. The Blended Orgasm

This is the second most common type of orgasm. The blended orgasm occurs when a woman has an internal AND clitoral orgasm at the same time. Usually, the blended orgasm results from adding clitoral stimulation during intercourse or toy play, or just having natural friction rubbing the clitoris during intercourse.

Blended orgasms feel more intense than the separate orgasms do and women who experience them suggest that having the internal stimulation (or the feeling of being full) actually speeds up and intensifies their clitoral orgasm.

So, how do you have a blended orgasm? First, you need to have experienced both types of orgasms separately if possible. Then, try intercourse or toy play and add in clitoral stimulation until you feel the orgasms building.

5. The Nipple Stimulated Orgasm

Many women find nipple stimulation extremely arousing and love to have it as part of foreplay. Some lucky women can take that arousal all the way to orgasm! Nipple orgasms are a thing but aren’t really commonplace and the women who experience them report having extremely sensitive nipples in general.

How can I try to have one? The key to having a nipple orgasm is to first continue the stimulation past the point of foreplay and, secondly, to allow your body to completely feel the sensations. Squeeze and rub your nipples. If you’re with a partner, have them lick, nibble, suck, flick or use nipple clamps to heighten the sensation. There are also nipple stimulating creams you can use to make the nipples more sensitive.

Sometimes stimulating both nipples at the same time can be the trigger to getting over the hump. Even though you initially feel the sensations on the nipples, you may find the sensations spread to your entire body leading to an orgasm.

6. The Anal Orgasm

Without a doubt, the most elusive type of orgasm is the anal orgasm. The anus is full of nerve endings and stimulating the skin around the anus or having anal penetration may lead to orgasm. There are many reasons the anal orgasm is elusive, one undoubtedly being the fact that so many women do not like anal sex combined with the fact that there is discomfort and even mild pain during anal sex.

However, those women who enjoy anal sex report that they feel a different type of arousal and orgasm than a traditional orgasm. Admittedly, the women who have anal orgasms can usually have G-spot orgasms as well. There is some speculation that women with heightened G-spot sensation can feel that being stimulated during anal sex, but this may not always be the case.

More common is the blended anal orgasm where clitoral stimulation aids in the intensity of the orgasm in general. So, how do you have an anal orgasm? Well, first you have to learn to enjoy anal sex. This means having a caring partner who is willing to put in the time and effort to ensure you enjoy it. Next, you have to allow yourself to relax.

Lubrication is a must in anal sex. You can’t relax if you feeling pain. Anal tissue is very delicate and prone to tearing, which can lead to infections. The anus doesn’t naturally produce lubrication, so you have to use lube and wait for the muscles around the anus to relax enough to allow penetration. It’s important to go slowly with anal sex. Finally, you may need or want to add in clitoral stimulation to speed up the orgasmic process.

There are many benefits to orgasms – when you have them. They release hormones in your body that help reduce pain and inflammation and they just make you feel relaxed and chill. Orgasms can happen multiple times or once, they can be big or small. Regardless of the size or how often they happen, they can be mind-blowing once they happen.

Make sure to relax, breathe deeply, and let go. Don’t pressure yourself, just feel all the feels and get out of your head! The bottom line on orgasms is that everyone feels them differently, regardless of where they feel them. It may not be the screaming O portrayed in movies and porn, but if your orgasm leaves you breathless and feeling good, that’s all that matters.

I’ve had a G-spot orgasm in my sleep. It was so intense, it almost hurt, in a good way! The only way I can describe the difference in sensation between clitoral and G-spot orgasms is this: a clitoral orgasm is like a saprano and a G-spot orgasm is like a baritone in intensity.
