What is Sexual Intimacy?

Technically, sex and intimacy are two separate things. Sex is an act that you and your partner share with one another, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be intimate. And intimacy describes the emotional bond that you and your partner share, but that emotional bond isn't necessarily physical or sexual.

Sexual intimacy is the merge of these two experiences becoming one. It means that you and your partner have bonded during a sexual experience in an emotional way. Somewhere within your sexual encounter, you both experienced a deeply emotional feeling that connected you to one another in a whole new way.

5 Tips to Connect on an Intimate Level

1. SET THE MOOD

When it comes to building emotional intimacy during sex, it's important to make sure you take some actions to set the mood ahead of time. By setting the mood I mean throw on some sexy music, light those candles your partner is obsessed with, maybe even make them a romantic dinner beforehand. Make it clear that you've taken time and effort to make this a beautiful, intimate experience.

2. BE SURE TO BRING IN SOME FOREPLAY

Foreplay really plays into the amount of intimacy a couple has during sex. It allows you to tease your partner and create a strong sexual build up for both of you. Start early by sending a dirty text in the middle of the day letting your lover know what you're going to do to them later. Then when you're with them whisper dirty things in their ear, slowly kiss their neck, really make sure you're taking your time to turn them on.

3. MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT

Eye contact is another very important thing to remember! Eye contact is easily one of the most intimate things any human being can experience. Some people have trouble making eye contact for this exact reason. If you feel awkward doing this, just push through it because it will do wonders to increase intimacy with your partner. Eye contact requires you to be fully vulnerable with one another and can really take sexual connection to the next level.

4. COMMUNICATE DURING INTERCOURSE

I know you've probably heard this too many times in your life, but it's just true! Communication is key, especially in the bedroom. There are a few different ways this communication can go. The first way is you can make it really dirty and use erotic words to describe what you're doing or what you want to do to them. Classic dirty talk is always a good option. The other option is to communicate in a more loving way. Tell your partner how much you love them, what you love about them and what emotions you are feeling in the moment.

5. BRING IN A SEX TOY

Despite the fact that sex toys are becoming more and more common to have these days, there is still this taboo idea around them. So, bringing a sex toy into the bedroom is typically something that doesn't happen the first few times you have sex. Using a sex toy with your partner (or having them use a sex toy on you) really shows how deeply you trust one another. Therefore, bringing a sex toy into the equation makes it that much more intimate.

7 Intimate Sex Positions to Try

There is always a discussion on what are the best positions for orgasm, or the best feeling positions, or even the most acrobatic. However, what about the most “passionate” positions? Which sexual positions offer the most intimacy between partners? So, the next time you want to add a different level of intimacy to sex, give one of these positions a try!

1. MISSIONARY

The missionary position always gets a bad rap as being “too vanilla” for some people. While it is true that the missionary position is a fairly, well, common position – the truth is that it is popular for a reason. Mainly, couples have been doing it for centuries because it is a very romantic and close position where you are face-to-face with your partner. This promotes closeness, kissing and gazing into each other’s eyes. For passionate positions, missionary definitely comes out on top!

2. LIFTED MISSIONARY

Next up, we're going to take the classic missionary position and spice things up a bit. Rather than laying down and looking into each other's eyes, you're going to be standing up. The penetrating partner will pick up the receiving partner, push them up against a wall and basically have missionary sex but standing up. In order to make this intimate, continue to maintain eye contact and embrace your lover with passionate touches.

3. SPOONING

Spooning is not just for after sex or sleeping. Oh, no, it is also for having sex! In the spooning position one partner cuddles up behind the other partner and enters from behind. Throw in a little neck kissing, cheek kissing, whisper in their ear and touch all over their body. The person being the "little spoon" will feel tenderly embraced by their partner. It is for this reason that spooning adds a great deal of intimacy as a sex position.

4. REVERSE SPOONING

Similar to the spooning position, another very intimate position is laying side-by-side. This is a modified version of the missionary position, where you and your partner are each on your side looking into one another's eyes. Doesn't get much more intimate than deep eye contact with someone you love.

5. THE LOTUS

The lotus is basically a hug in the form of a sex position. What you're going to do is sit down cross legged (butterfly legs!) and your partner will basically come down to sit on top of you. Then you'll intimately embrace one another with your arms. This position is often used in tantric sex, and can be very intimate even without any kind of penetration.

6. THE COWGIRL

The cowgirl sex position can be kinky, but it can also be incredibly intimate if done the right way. If you've done the cowgirl position before, then you know what to do. The person receiving will hop on top as their partner enters them. But how do we make this more intimate? Well, it's alllll in the eye contact baby! While you're riding your partner, look them deeply in the eyes and maintain that eye contact to deepen the intimacy level.

7. DOGGY WITH AN INTIMATE TWIST

Last but certainly not least intimate, is the classic doggy style position. However, we're gonna put a twist on it to make it more intimate for you and your lover. Rather than the receiver being on their knees with their ass in the air waiting for a nice smack on the rear, the receiver is actually going to fully lay down. Then the penetrating partner will climb on top of them and fully embrace them while slowly inserting themselves. It's basically like you are being hugged or spooned while also being intimately penetrated. It's a win, win!

I agree with Phillip 100%! The T position is the best overlooked position for comfortable and prolonged sex since there is no body weight on either partner. Another variation of the T position is the female putting her legs over her partner pulling the hips tightly and then rocks back and forth controlling the sexual contact then holds the penis or strap-on deep and tight inside the woman’s wet “V” while having orgasms. Another position I like is the L which is great for oral sex! One partner laying on her back or side lengthwise and he or she comes across and lines up his head at the crotch area or butt hole and licks away and one partner can masturbate the other depending what body part is being licked sucked on. Out of the 7 positions that were shown I’ve only done 1, 6 and 7 and another sex position missed I call 6A – Reverse Cowgirl which I enjoyed more than the regular Cowgirl! One thing I didn’t like – speaking from experience – was changing sex positions to quickly and often which my 1st wife loved to do. My current wife had a book given to her by one of her besties, but disappeared a while back called the 365 days of sex positions that you opened one day at a time, and you performed that sex act on the page you uncovered. The problem she had with the book there was a warning that some of the covered pages included adding partners and I assured her we could skip those pages if she wanted to, but deep down I think she threw the book away after checking out the whole book, I know I would have!

How come no one ever mentions the T-SQUARE position? Our favorite. Look it up on Wikipedia.

My favor is to let my husband have anal sex! He love that alot! I love it went he is foreplay and I’m the one receiving it especially went he had his fingers inside of me

I love the Lotus position with a little twist. We both get into the jacuzzi tub and after a little of foreplay, he pulls me on to his lap and enters me. We hold a tight embrace while he moves me slowly back and forth until we cum together. Ultimate foreplay session before you climb into bed.
