I watched my first adult video my freshman year in college. My suitemates and I had been in the middle of a debate about anal sex when one of the girls suggested we simply borrow a video from one of the guys in our dorm and see for ourselves. We sent the least timid girl down to the end of the hallway to retrieve the “porn”. Giggling like schools girls, we put the tape in the VCR. We were worried someone would hear what we were doing so we turned the volume down to a level that forced us to huddle around the TV in order to hear what was being said (which we all know is little more than groans and exuberant cries of “YES!”).

There was definitely some initial shock. Only one of us had actually seen an adult video before (she had two older brothers), the rest of us were rookies. But the shock quickly faded and within a half an hour we were rewinding the tape and playing it back in slow motion. “Is he putting that where I think he’s putting it?” “There is NO way those are real!” “I pray to God I don’t make that face when I am having sex.” That’s when I started looking at adult videos as something other than sexual entertainment. I began looking at them as educational tools.

Most women I know blush at the mere mention of adult videos and few will acknowledge watching them. I still get a bit red cheeked myself, but I will admit, openly, that on occasion I watch adult videos. And why shouldn’t I? I am a young woman with a healthy sexual curiosity. Have you ever heard the phrase “show don’t tell”? Well, I can read all the women’s magazines I want, but I can guarantee you that not one of them is going to give me detailed steps on how to perform the perfect blowjob. But watch an adult video? I bet you that by the end of a week I master the art.

Women—I call out to you, I plead with you, and I ask you—to watch an adult movie in the near future. Gone are the days of adult movie theaters located in dark alleys and the “back rooms” of the local video stores. Now watching an adult movie is as easy as going online and purchasing a DVD to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. Whether you watch it by yourself, with a partner or a group of your girl friends, watch one. Worse case scenario? You find yourself entertained, a bit more informed and maybe even aroused.
