To start, I am 5'2, not the most petite. This gag was too big to even try and fit into my mouth. It may just be that I have a small mouth (this is not the first gag I've tried with the same problem), but this is about 1 3/4" diameter. Also, the gag part itself is hard plastic. It does have a breathing hole, and the straps/velcro closure are very nice. I would imagine that if it wasn't too big, the plastic piece would be a little uncomfortable in the mouth, but not too much. Some people want their partner to be uncomfortable, and I think that this would be a good compromise. The plastic feels solid enough as long as you don't have someone with an incredibly strong jaw biting down on this. Again, there are some definite pluses to this gag, most especially the straps & closure (velcro=yay!), so as long as you don't have a small mouth and can use something that is 1 3/4" wide, I would recommend this as an entry level or casual gag, not hardcore.
