Taming Toy Timidness

A year ago I don’t think I could have explained the difference between a vibrator and a dildo. Ok, maybe I could—but I would have blushed, shuffled my feet nervously and never have made eye contact with the person asking the question. Now? I’ll give you a complete definition for each, an example of one and/or the other, and I’ll tell you which one is my favorite. What happened? A little sexual exploration and a budding curiosity that led to satisfaction in the bedroom.
Sex is something almost everyone does and very few people discuss. I think politics is a whole lot more dirty and inappropriate to talk about than sex—yet we discuss that openly and without shame! The problem with not discussing sex is that there are many misconceptions and misunderstandings.
When I was growing up (who am I kidding? It’s still going on) there was NO talking about vibrators. I’d never seen one and I’m not even sure I could have told you what one actually looked like. I didn’t know if they were intended for women or men. I was clueless. I eventually discovered all there was to know about vibrators and even went as far as to buy one. And while it was bringing me pleasure in my bedroom I was still curious. I decided that I needed to talk to my girlfriends about my new found toy, but I was nervous that I would be opening Pandora’s Box if I did. While we were all close and comfortable joking about sex, we had never had a round table discussion about the nuts and bolts of our sexuality.
They all had vibrators! And dildos and some had toys I had never heard of! I remember sitting, my mouth hanging open in astonishment. Up until the moment they revealed their secrets I had thought I was weird. I received so much pleasure from my vibrator and I completely enjoyed exploring my body with it—yet since I didn’t know anyone else who had a toy I thought I was different. And to be honest, somewhere in the corner of my mind I actually thought I might be abnormal.
But there is nothing odd or weird or abnormal about sex toys. The sooner we all realize that the sooner we can all start having mind-blowing orgasms! I will be writing a mini series explaining the ABC’s of Sex Toys. I will explain what each toy is and how to use it. By the end of this series I expect to hear the hum of vibrators being turned on all over the world! I want each and every one of you to promise yourself a new toy. I want you to grab hold of your dildo, hold it high and follow my lead—“My name is Jen and I love my dildo!”
