2,000 Year Old Dildo?!

Evidence reveals even the ancient Romans indulged in their fair share of masturbation! This ancient artifact was discovered by UK archeologists in 1992 at the Roman fort of Vindolanda in Northumberland. The item was originally theorized to be a cylinder object used for darning, the practice of repairing holes in fabric, but experts are now saying it could possibly be an ancient six inch dildo.

One would think this discovery would be far from a revelation given the object’s erotic shape and voluptuous tip, but hey, maybe the field of archaeology hasn’t been properly introduced to the world of sex toys yet. The darning dildo is made entirely of wood, begging the question; were the Romans aware of the benefits of proper lubrication? One can only hope. We can’t even begin to imagine what the ancient Romans would think of our modern day dildos, rotating, thrusting, twisting and all. We’d like to think they’d be proud of how far we’ve come.
